2020 Mid-Autumn Festival and Chinese National Day
Posted at2020-09-30

This year China’s Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day are on the same day, both on October 1st,2020.
Hope to share the joy of this holiday with everyone!

The Mid-Autumn Festival and the National Day appear on the same day in 1944, 1963, 1982, 2001, 2020, 2031, etc. It will happen once in about 19 years.
Astronomical experts said that this situation is mainly the result of a leap month. Zhiheng, Zhao, director of the Tianjin Astronomical Society, said: "If the leap month of the

lunar calendar is added before August, most of it will cause a "happy meeting" on the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day."

The Chinese lunar calendar stipulates that there are 30 days in the big month and 29 days in the small month. There are 354 or 355 days in a year and 12 months, which

is about 11 days less than the number of days in a tropical year. In 4 years, it will be more than 1 month less. Over time, there will be strange phenomena of time between

heaven and earth.

In order to solve this problem, the method of adding "leap months" was adopted. This year, the leap month appeared in June. Not only did the Qixi Festival be postponed,

but the Mid-Autumn Festival also followed the mistake. In addition, the Mid-Autumn Festival in the lunar calendar generally appeared between September 7th and

October 6th in the Gregorian calendar, thus the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day calendar phenomenon appeared.

Mid-Autumn Festival,

or Mid-autumn Day,is the second grandest festival in China after the Chinese New Year.

It is named so for that it is celebrated on the 15th day of the 8th lunar month, which is always in the middle of the autumn season in China.

In Chinese culture, full moon symbolizes reunion, so that we reunite with their families for celebrations. We worship the moon together, appreciate the moon together, enjoy

reunion dinner and even share one mooncake to celebrate the reunion.

Chinese National Day

October 1st ,1949 was the memorial day for the founding of the People's Republic of China. One thing should be noted is that the PRC was not founded on that day.

Actually the Chinese independence day was September 21st ,1949. The grand ceremony held at Tiananmen Square on October 1st ,1949 was to celebrate the

forming of the Central People's Government of the brand new country. Later on October 2nd, 1949, the new government passed the'Resolution on the National Day

of the People's Republic of China' and declared October 1st to be the Chinese National Day. Ever since 1950, every October 1st has been grandly celebrated by

Chinese people.

Chinese National Day is celebrated on October 1st every year to commemorate the founding of People's Republic of China. On that day, lots of large-scaled activities

are held nationwide. The 7-day holiday from Oct. 1st to 7th is called'Golden Week ', during which a large number of Chinese people go traveling around the country.

This year marks the 71st anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. 2020 is a very difficult year for the people of the whole country, but we are lucky
